2017 Model UN Conference Trip

Over the past weekend, Catholic Central students traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan to participate in the University of Michigan Model UN Conference. Students participated in a United Nations-simulation where they represented Italy, Chad, Maldives, and other various individuals in different UN committees. Before attending the conference, each student was assigned both a UN committee and a country by Model UN organizers to research and prepare papers on for the simulation. While in Ann Arbor, they participated in authentic UN meetings and discussed given global topics and problems. From there, they joined with other delegates to draft working papers and write resolutions to solve these problems. Some of the topics in committee were more controversial, such as the integration of Syrian refugees into other countries, cyber warfare, establishing a definition of terrorism, and how to prosecute the criminal activity of UN personnel on missions, and led to heated debate among the delegates. Our students each contributed well throughout the four-day conference.

Overall, students had a great time discussing global topics within their committees and sharing research and opinion with other delegates. “I thought it was an amazing experience and will definitely be attending next year!” said sophomore Luke Sassano.

A special congratulations goes out to Sydney Robson who won Best Delegate for her work within the Mexican Drug Cartel Conflict. This is an incredible honor considering how many students participate within each committee.

Next year we hope to include even more CCHS students on the trip! If you are interested in signing up for Model UN next year, stop by and talk to Ms. Dosemagen!

CCHS Freshman Swimmer going to Sectionals!

Catholic Central Freshman Isabelle (Izzy) Craig has had an outstanding year as a member of the Burlington Co-op Swim Team, which consists of swimmers from Burlington, Catholic Central, Union Grove and Waterford high schools.  Her regular swim season is coming to an end.  They participated in their JV Conference Meet on Tuesday October 25th and the Co-Op team came in First Place!  Izzy brought home 3 First Place Medals and a 2nd Place Medal in the 100 Meter Backstroke, due to being out-touched by 1 one-hundredth of a second by her own teammate.

On Friday, October 28th, the Co-Op team participated in a JV invite with 11 other schools/teams.  Izzy, along with 3 of her teammates, took 3rd overall in the Medley Relay and the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.  Izzy took 3rd among Freshmen competing in the Individual Medley and was 1st overall out of all of the Freshmen in the 100 Yard Backstroke (2nd overall).

On Saturday, October 29th the Co-Op team had their Varsity Conference Meet.  They took 2nd place.  Izzy participated in both the Medley Relay and the 100 Yard Backstroke.  She had a personal best time in the 100 Yard Backstroke and managed to take off 9 seconds overall on her backstroke this season, surpassing the goal set for her by her coach.

Izzy will be swimming the 100 Backstroke at Sectionals this Saturday, November 5th.  She is one of only 4 of the 9 freshman chosen to participate in Sectionals.

Congratulations on an outstanding season Izzy!  Best of luck in the Sectionals!

CCHS Sophomore wins an American Quarter Horse!

Back in August, CCHS sophomore Eden Kopac, wrote a 500 word essay on why she would like to own an American Quarter Horse Wheeling. This essay was put into a contest along with 25 other kids from across the country, and the winner receives a horse! Eden was the only Wisconsin contestant, and she was chosen by the American Quarter Horse Foundation as the winner! Along with her essay, she filled out paperwork regarding what she would feed the horse, where she would board him, and most importantly, what her training philosophy would be. As the winner, she will be attending a seminar to present to a group of people, and writing a two page paper each month about her progress on training her horse. She received the exciting news last week, and is hoping that her and her parents can drive down to Lazy-U Ranch in Hershey, Nebraska to pick up her horse next week. She does not know which one will be hers yet, and she is still deciding on what to name him. She has promised to send pictures once she finds out! This is Eden's first horse that she personally owns, and we could not be more proud of her for winning. Congratulations Eden!
