Students from the Topper Band and Choir will also be performing solos and small ensembles from 6:00-8:00 in preparation for the Solo/Ensemble Festival next Saturday.

Please stop by for a coffee pick-me-up, an after school wine/beer, some delicious sandwiches, or any other Coffeehouse specialties while enjoying good student music and supporting the performing arts at CC.

Congrats to Sarah March!

Sarah March, a sophomore at Catholic Central High School, was awarded a Gold Key,
the highest honor for her stained glass piece of a rooster in the barnyard at the
Scholastic Art Awards Competition held at the Milwaukee Art Museum. The contest is a
state wide and has many categories. Sarah competed in “Ceramics and Glass” division.
The top award winners, those with a gold or silver key, have their artwork on display at
the Milwaukee Art Museum until March 17th. The highest award winners, the gold key
winners, will have their art go on to compete at the national level. If Sarah’s stained
glass advances she will have her work on display with country wide winners in New
York City. Sarah was presented with her award at a ceremony at the museum in the
Quadracci Pavilion design by Santiago Calatrava on Saturday, February 8th.
Sarah’s piece is 12” by 18” and had well over 70 pieces of cut, foiled and soldered
glass. Her piece was the only stained glass piece in the show this year. Catholic Central
just added the stained glass class in order to have students reach mastery and create
the two very large stained glass windows for Catholic Central’s new chapel. The first
window is about 50% completed. Student next year will continue to work on the large
windows.
(Sarah’s grandfather who knows how to do stained glass lent us some of the equipment
and came in to get us started. Grandpa hasn’t seen the piece yet as it was on display
here and then sent off to be judged and displayed in Milwaukee. You would love talking
to Sarah. She choose the rooster since she raises chickens as a hobby.)

Make-up Days for St Mary School

Make-up Days
Make-up days for the unprecedented five days lost due to weather conditions this winter have been decided.  We feel this provides the best alternative for quality instructional time for our students.  St. Mary School will join St. Charles and the Burlington Area School District  in the following calendar changes. This will mean that regular busing will be provided. The make-up will consist of adding one full day and changing two scheduled early release days to full days.
  1. February 28, 2014 will be a regular full day of school instead of a teacher In-service day.
  2. April 17, 2014 will become a regular full day of school instead of an early release day.
  3. May 14, 2014 will become a regular full day of school instead of an early release day.
