ACT PREP CLASS INFORMATION!

See below for information on the ACT prep class  being offered in January/February at CCHS.  This is the same class that was offered last year.  It provides in-depth test-taking techniques for each of the 4 multiple choices tests that make up the ACT.

If you/your student would like to take this class, we need to know ASAP.  We need 30 students to cover the cost of the class.  If interested, please send your payment into the school office before 12/15 to hold your spot.  If we do not get enough students, we will need to cancel the class.  Thank you!

ACT Prep Class

Catholic Central High School is once again looking to offer an ACT Prep class to better prepare our students to take the ACT Test.  The class will again be offered on Saturday mornings from 9:00 – 10:30 here at Catholic Central.  The dates are January 23rd, 30th, February 6th, 13th, and 20th.   The five class sessions will focus on the following:

Session 1 – Learning ACT test-taking strategies
Session 2 – Focus on English content area
Session 3 – Focus on Math content area
Session 4Focus on Reading/Writing content area
Session 5 – Focus on Science content area

The class will be taught by Tom Tonnesen, Independent College Admissions Director from College Admissions Pathway (CAPs).  For more information about Mr. Tonnesen and his program, please see his website at http://www.caps2college.com.

The cost of the class is $125 per student, and we need a minimum of 30 students in order to offer the class.  This is the cost to cover the ACT prep book used as well as Mr.  Tonnesen’s services;  Catholic Central does not make any money off of this.  If we have more than 30 students enroll, the cost of the class would be adjusted accordingly.  If we do not have at least 30 students interested in the class from Catholic Central, we would like to open up the class to surrounding schools.  However, we want to give CCHS students first opportunity. If interested, please send a check for $125, made out to Catholic Central High School, to guarantee a spot for your child.  We have a deadline of December 15th to determine if we have enough students to offer the class.  If you have any questions, please contact Theresa Phillips, Aimee Reyzer, or Dave Wieters @ 262-763-1510 x 225.

WC3 News

The Worldwide Community Charity Club is proud to announce that we were successful in raising $429.09 this semester to be donated to the European Migrant Crisis through Catholic Relief Services! Thanks to everyone who has supported our efforts, and to all the club members for their hard work--way to make a difference in the world as a team CC!

Penny War

Hey CC!

It's that time of the year again--the National Honor Society is hosting the 2nd Annual Penny War, which begins the day we get back from Thanksgiving break! Please read this flier for all information, including the rules. There are some awesome prizes this year: aside from earning ultimate bragging rights, the winning class will not only be first in the lunch line for a week and get a dress down day, but will get to pick the order of the lunch line, too

There is also an added twist this year: it is a NUCLEAR Penny War! This means that at certain times throughout the two weeks it takes place, I will call out times via email/announcements when the war "goes nuclear" where for only 10 minutes at secret times/dates, whoever donates a minimum of $10 can nuke their own team's jar (AKA: empty everything out except for pennies) and put it ALL in another team's jar!

Just to clarify for anyone who hasn't played before: it is a game of sabotage between the teachers/staff, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors--the goal is to put as much money into the other teams' jars (except for pennies--those are good, so put them in your own jar) . Each team's jars are located in the main office.

This year NHS will be donating all funds raised to CCHS Alumni Bekah Shellberg.

Adopt-A-Family Christmas Tree

As you and your family prepare for Thanksgiving and the holiday season, take a minute to think of those families who do not have the means to celebrate.

Every child deserves to feel loved by opening a gift on Christmas. However, what is unique is making the gift personal. Adopt-a-Family matches Christian families looking to give gifts with families in need at Christmas. The families in need make lists, which are used to buy personalized items.
Key Club has adopted four families this year through Love Inc. and needs your help to provide Christmas gifts! Please check out the Christmas tree outside of Ms.Dosemagen’s room and take an ornament with a gift listed to give to a family in need. We need these gifts brought into school by Friday, December 4th in order to get them to families before Christmas.
If you are unable to make it in to see the tree, please email Key Club president Bridgette Wright (brwright@cchsnet.org) or advisor Susan Dosemagen (sdosemagen@cchsnet.org) for gift options.

We appreciate your help in providing families with gifts during the Christmas season! Thank you!

Girls Basketball Team Trip To Dubuque

The girls basketball team recently went on a team trip to Dubuque and had a blast! The team hiked the bluffs along the Mississippi at the Mines of Spain and did some team-building activities.  The girls also got to watch Coach Reyzer play with her alumni team from the University of Dubuque.  They finished out the weekend with mass at the Cathedral of St. Raphael, including receiving a blessing on their upcoming season from the priest.

Overall, it was a great weekend uniting the players for the start of the season!

Key Club Trick-or-Treats for UNICEF

Over Halloween weekend many Key Club members went trick-or-treating with a higher goal than candy accumulation in mind. Members walked house to house to raise money for Key Club International’s project Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF to raise money for the Eliminate Project. The Eliminate project works to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus worldwide. Students were able to collect almost $250 for this organization meaning that their donation can protect 100 women and their future newborns from tetanus.

United Way Opportunity

There is a volunteer opportunity on Thursday, November 12th at St.Mary's to work with United Way and provide dinner and winter clothes to children in the Racine area Head Start program. United Way is organizing the night and needs help between 3-8 serving Zumpano's spaghetti dinner, handing out clothes from Kohl's, and working with young children on art projects.

If you are interested in volunteering for set-up (3-5), during the program (5-7), clean-up (7-8), or the entire night, please email Ms. Dosemagen! We will have a brief meeting on Thursday, Nov.5th after school to go over some more details and sign up for times. The United Way is looking for at least 10 students and invited us directly since it is on our campus.

Key Club Veteran's Fundraiser

This next week, Key Club will be beginning its first ever Home for Troops fundraiser in honor of this upcoming Veteran's Day.

Homes for Troops, receiving Charity Navigator's highest rating since 2008, is a privately funded, nonprofit organization that builds specially adapted, mortgage-free homes for severely mentally and physically disabled soldiers returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Since its founding in 2004, Homes for Troops has built over 190 specially adapted homes nationwide and aims to continue building homes for all veterans who qualify. However, being a privately funded organization, nearly 70% of their funds come from donation, which is where we come into play.

There are three ways you can contribute:

1. Participate in our $1 Dress Down Day on November 9th. Turn in money to Ms. Dosemagen or Bridgette Wright by November 6th.
2. Come chill with us at The Coffee House on Veteran's Day, November 11th. From 4 until 9, a portion of the proceeds will go to our Homes for Troops fundraiser.
3. Make a free will donation to our Homes for Troops fundraiser page: https://fundraise.hfotusa.org/fundraise?fcid=523625

Please help us achieve our goal of raising $500 during the 2 week interval we have before Veteran's Day.

In addition to this monetary fundraiser, we will also be making cards for veterans during 7th hour prayer and having an assembly on November 11th, Veteran's Day.

Thanks in advance for all of your support.
