RE:         Academic All-State honoree from Catholic Central High School

The Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin (GCAW) is pleased to announce that Sean Kramer  of Catholic Central High School is an Academic All-State honoree for the boys’ golf season.  Students are submitted by GCAW member coaches if they meet the following criteria: 1) A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25, 2) participation in at least 75% of their team’s varsity matches, and 3) are at least a sophomore in high school.   Sean is a student-athlete who serves as a great example to others, proving that academic and athletic successes are not mutually exclusive.

The coaches association is proud to announce a record 365 boys from 126 high schools have been honored this year for maintaining high academic standards in the classroom while competing in varsity golf.  In fact, the average cumulative GPA of this year’s honorees is an exceptional 3.720.  Student’s with a GPA of 3.75 or higher have been noted with ‘High Honors’, while those with a GPA of 3.25-3.749 were acknowledged in the ‘Honor’ category.  Sean’s commitment to academics resulted in a designation of Honors.

The GCAW was formed by high school golf coaches in 1986 to help build Wisconsin's reputation for developing quality junior players by promoting golf in our schools and communities. Besides honoring both boys and girls who succeed as student athletes, the association also selects an annual All-State team for boys and girls based on their playing ability.

U.S. History - Speakeasy Immersion

The MAC Classroom turned into 1930 Chicago, and we were invited to the fanciest club in the city. We were surprised by the appearances of glamour and fame: Clara Bow - you might know her as "The IT Girl", The Bad Girl of the Silver Screen Louise Brooks, Al Capone, Charles Lindbergh, and Babe Ruth to name a few. Pop culture was discussed, the World Series won by the Jimmie Foxx led Philadelphia Athletics, the advancements in flight, motion pictures and music were all discussed. Talk of the hard times with the stock market crash in '29, the end of the Great War, some say the war to end all wars. Flappers and the men showed off the fashion of the time, and tried to new dance moves while listening to Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington among others.

Congratulations Lauren Reesman!

Lauren broke the state record last night in the wheelchair shot put with a throw of 14'1", breaking the previous mark by 7".  For her to officially break the record she will have to throw that at the state meet, but that shouldn't be a problem!  Way to go!!

Just off the Boardwalk, PT Barnum brought his circus to the classroom. Acts such as Annie Oakley, Laurel and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, Harry Houdini, General Tom Thumb and Chang and Eng made their way to the show. We also had sports greats such as Bobby Jones, Ty Cobb and prize fighters on hand. Food/Drink innovators were on hand, the ice cream cone, John Pemberton and Milton Hershey. Lastly we had great minds of the time, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, and Albert Einstein to name a few.

Summer Phy Ed

Just a reminder that if you are planning in taking Physical Education: Individual Activities & Personal Fitness this summer, you need to let Ms. Reyzer know and get  your $150.00 payment in ASAP.  Some students indicated on their course request forms that they wanted to take summer phy ed, but as the end of the school year and the start of this course is fast approaching, we need to get a more concrete number of students with payment.

Please see the flyer below that was sent out regarding this course including dates, times, and student responsibilities.  If you have any questions about this, please call Mrs. Phillips.

Summer Volunteer Opportunity

The Burlington Public Library is yet again looking for high school student volunteers to work the summer reading program. This would involve helping out at events and/or working the registration/prize table. If you work the prize desk, you can work on homework or read while waiting for someone to come up to you for help. Shifts are 2 hours each and run throughout the day. You can sign up for as much or as little as you want--you don't have to work the whole summer if you don't want to, and you can work different time slots (to accommodate work schedules and your summer plans). Sign-ups are online this year, so check out the flier or you can pick up a paper copy in the office.

US History Immersion -- 1880 Tombstone

US History students turned into Doc Holliday, Wyatt Earp, Curly Bill Brocius, cowboys, buffalo hunters, gold miners and the law. Students discussed the rail, life after the Civil War, mining, new technology, Indian affairs, homesteading, business all the while trying on the new fashion (some man named Strauss patents this new type of pant in 1873... I'm not sure, but I think it is going to be big)
