Congratulations to Bailey Bleser who just signed to be a part of McKendree University Bass Team!  Please see the press release below:

Bailey Bleser Signs with the McKendree University Bass Fishing Team

The Bearcat fishing team is very excited to have Bailey Bleser from Catholic Central High School sign with the program for the 2018-2019 fishing season.  McKendree University is an NCAA Division II private school that is nestled in the heart of beautiful Lebanon, IL, just 30 minutes from St. Louis, MO. Bailey is the son of Richard and Victoria Bleser from Burlington, Wisconsin.

Bailey has already had an outstanding high school fishing career.  His active tournament schedule over the past three years, along with the remainder of this year will definitely have him ready for our collegiate trail.   His successes include many strong finishes in a wide variety of circuits and locations.  Bailey has fished the Angler Young Angler Series, USA Bassin’ Series, FLW, and Bassmasters Circuits.  He was also selected as a two time Bassmaster All State Representative.  In the Angler Young Angler Series he has four top tens including a second and two first place finishes.  In the USA Bassin’ Series he had numerous top five finishes.  His performance in the FLW High School State Series has been exceptional.  Bailey won the 2016 FLW Northern High School Open on Mille Lacs. Had a second place finish in the Wisconsin Open on the Mississippi River at La Crosse, a fourth in both the Ohio and Indiana Opens, and a ninth place finish in the Minnesota Open.  Bailey also placed 3rd in the 2015 FLW Wisconsin State Championship.  He was a 2017 FLW National Qualifier at Pickwick Lake and placed thirteenth in the 2017 FLW World Open Semi Finals on Pickwick.  In the Bassmaster Midwest Open at Lake of the Ozarks, Bailey finished 14th.

“We are excited to welcome Bailey to campus next fall.  Our program is so fortunate to have an angler with his experience, skill set, and passion for the sport.  Due to his ability and wide range of experiences, I am confident that he will step right in and be a positive force competing for a win everywhere we go.  His outstanding character, leadership skills, and hard work ethic will also be a great addition to our McKendree campus and family.”

The McKendree University Bass Fishing Team is currently in it’s fifth year since inception.  Last year, the team finished 5th place in the nationwide Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) School of the Year competition, won the Bassmaster Midwest Conference Regional Tourney, and had 26 top ten finishes.  In 2016, they placed 4th place and had 21 top ten finishes, in 2015, they finished 8th place with 15 top ten finishes, and in 2014, they finished 20th.  The ACA includes over 350 schools across the nation, and the School of the Year competition compiles tournament results from all three college circuits, Cabela's, FLW, and Bassmaster.  The McKendree anglers have appeared on ESPN-U, NBC Sports Network, the Pursuit Channel, and the World Fishing Network, had a blog on HeartlandOutdoors.com, was on the Jan 2017 cover of FLW magazine, and was recently featured in the December 2017 B.A.S.S. Times magazine.

Look At What The Fishing Club Has Been Up To!

The 2017 High School fishing season was a great success for the CCHS anglers!  CCHS was represented at all the state, regional and many national opens over the past few months.  In April 2017, Bailey Bleser represented CCHS as he competed at the BASS Midwest High School Open on Lake of the Ozarks in Osage Beach, MO.  Bailey finished a very respectable 14, fishing solo in a team tournament.  Bailey and Matt McDonald ventured to Dayton, TN to fish the BASS Southern High School Open on Chickamauga Lake the last weekend in April.  Despite having numerous boat issues, Matt and Bailey salvaged a decent finish in 123rd place.

The first weekend of May, Bailey represented CCHS at the Student Angler Federation (SAF) WI State High School Championships on the Mississippi River in La Crosse, WI where he finished second, qualifying him for the SAF High School National Championships.  Matt and Bailey returned to the Mississippi River in La Crosse the following week to compete in the BASS WI State Championships where they struggled to find sizable fish due to high water levels.  They finished mid-pack around 20th place.  In early June, Matt and Bailey once again returned to the Mississippi River near Wabasha, MN to compete in the SAF Minnesota High School Open.  After a great day on the water, catching an abundance of fish, Matt and Bailey finished 9th among some of the best HS anglers in the Midwest.

The High School season culminated with Bailey traveling to Florence, AL to compete in the SAF World High School Open and the SAF National High School Championships on the Tennessee River’s Pickwick Lake.  Bailey was not only representing CCHS, but also the state of Wisconsin at the High School Nationals!  The national tournament was three days long, with three days of pre-fishing preceding.  Bailey did a terrific job learning a huge body of water to find numerous locations which were holding fish.  Out of approximately 80 boats, Bailey finished 42nd.  It was a terrific experience, and a great performance for the first time Bailey fished this huge river system.  He hopes to have the opportunity to return next year, as he got stronger with each day of fishing.

Following the Nationals, Bailey competed on the same body of water for the SAF World Open title.  He competed against 322 other High School teams over a two day qualifier.  Bailey’s first two days’ catch qualified him to continue fishing a third day in the semi-finals.  With a third day, 5 fish total weight of over 14lbs., Bailey moved into 14th place.   Again, and extremely respectable finish by Bailey against 322 of the best High School anglers in the world.

The fall High School fishing season ramps up again in September where Student Angler Federation High School Open tournaments will take place in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee (and other southern states).  We are hoping to field a team for the Indiana, Illinois and Ohio Opens.   These are national qualifying events where the top 3 teams at each event will qualify to fish the 2018 SAF HS National Championships.

Interested in joining the Fishing Club? We have a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 8/30 right after school!
