Through a generous grant by the Burlington community group Music Matters, The Catholic Central musical was able to participate in the Tommy Awards for the first time during the 2015/2016 school year. The Tommy Awards is a program run by the Overture Center for the Arts in Madison, WI that recognizes and honors excellence in high school musical theater. 72 participating schools were critiqued by a series of reviewers each searching for areas of excellence in 15 categories. It is with great pleasure we announce Catholic Central's inaugural nominees to the Tommy Awards.
Technical nominees include: Zachary Ziegler and Abby Galstad for Outstanding Musical Direction, Stephanie Staszak for Outstanding Choreography, and Jackie Bordak for Outstanding Lighting Design.
Our wonderful and talented parent volunteers were recognized with a nomination for Outstanding Scenic Design.
The crew of Grease received a nomination for Outstanding Stage Management.
Performers receiving nominations include: Nate Huberty and Bridgette Wright for Outstanding Dance Performance, Sophie Wagner (Jan), Logan Cudlip (Doody), and Hayden Kempken (Vince Fontaine) for Outstanding Supporting Performance, and Greg Sember (Danny Zuko), Nate Huberty (Kenickie), and Bridgette Wright (Rizzo) for Outstanding Lead Performance.
Highlighting the nominations was a selection for Outstanding Ensemble.
We will find out the results later this month. An awards show will be hosted by the Overture Center on Sunday, June 12 at 6 PM and will be broadcast on PBS. Stay tuned for future updates!
